How to use the LinkedIn Character Counter

  1. Paste your text. Paste a post, a comment, a headline or your About section. The count updates as you type.
  2. Read the meters. Each meter compares the text with a LinkedIn limit: 3,000 for a post, 1,250 for a comment, 220 for a headline and 2,600 for About.
  3. Check the opening. The preview shows roughly the first 210 characters, the part most readers see before "see more".
  4. Trim and copy. Cut anything over the limit, move the key point into the opening and copy the text back into LinkedIn.

Which numbers are official

Verified and approximate

Verified: the 3,000 character post limit, from LinkedIn Help. Approximate: the 1,250 comment limit, the 220 headline and 2,600 About limits, and the roughly 210 character "see more" point. Each meter shows its source in small print so you can see which is which.

Counting uses the same functions as the Grapheme Limit Checker on this site: characters as code points, plus graphemes and UTF-16 units for comparison.

Getting the opening right

Most readers decide on a LinkedIn post from the part above "see more". Put the point of the post there, not a greeting. If the opening is a list of short lines, the cut can come earlier than 210 characters, so check the preview on your phone too.

Frequently asked questions

What is the LinkedIn post character limit?

3,000 characters. LinkedIn Help states: "The character limit for a post is 3,000 characters." That figure was checked in October 2026 and is the only LinkedIn limit on this page taken directly from a LinkedIn page.

How long can a LinkedIn comment be?

1,250 characters is the widely reported figure and matches third-party tests, but we could not find it on a LinkedIn page, so it is marked approximate. If a comment is rejected near that length, shorten it or post the rest as a reply.

How many characters show before "see more" on LinkedIn?

Roughly 210 on desktop in our observation, often fewer on mobile, and fewer again when the post opens with several short lines, because the cut is also based on lines. LinkedIn does not publish the number.

Do emoji count as one character on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn does not document how it counts. This counter counts Unicode code points, where most emoji count once and a combined emoji such as a family counts once per part. The UTF-16 count is shown too, in case LinkedIn counts that way for your text.

Are LinkedIn headline and About limits included?

Yes: 220 characters for a headline and 2,600 for the About section, both widely documented and labelled approximate because we could not fetch a LinkedIn page stating them in October 2026. They come from the Bio Length Checker on this site.
