How to use the LinkedIn Text Formatter

  1. Write or paste the post. Type your LinkedIn post into the editor. The counter tracks it against the 3,000 character limit.
  2. Style a few words. Select a word or short phrase and choose bold, italic, bold italic or monospace. Choose Plain to undo. With nothing selected, the style applies to everything.
  3. Lay it out. Turn lines into bullets or a numbered list, or put one blank line between paragraphs for the spaced layout many LinkedIn posts use.
  4. Check the fold and copy. The preview shows roughly what appears before "see more". Move your key point into that part, then copy the post.

Styles and layout helpers

Styling uses the same Unicode mapping as the Social Media Text Formatter on this site: Mathematical Sans-Serif Bold, Italic and Bold Italic, and Mathematical Monospace. Restyling a styled word converts it back to plain letters first, so styles never stack. Bullets and numbering replace any existing "-", "*" or "1." markers. Paragraph spacing removes empty lines and then puts exactly one between each line.

Sources and caveats

The 3,000 character post limit is from LinkedIn Help, checked October 2026. The "see more" length is an observation shared with the Hook Line Tester and is approximate. The accessibility warning follows how screen readers handle Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols: they are separate characters, not styled letters.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make text bold on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn posts have no bold button. Tools like this one swap your letters for Unicode "mathematical" letters that look bold, italic or monospace. You copy them like normal text. They only cover A to Z (and 0 to 9 for bold and monospace); accented letters and emoji stay as they are.

Is bold Unicode text bad for accessibility?

It can be. Screen readers may read styled letters one at a time, announce them as math symbols, or skip them, and search may not find the words. That is why the tool warns you whenever styled text is in the post. Use it for a word or two, not for whole sentences, names or keywords people search for.

How many characters show before "see more" on LinkedIn?

On desktop, roughly the first 210 characters, in our observation; mobile can show fewer, and a post with several short lines is cut by line count sooner. LinkedIn does not document the exact point, so the preview here is a guide.

What is the LinkedIn post character limit?

LinkedIn Help states the limit for a post is 3,000 characters. Each styled letter here counts as one character in this tool's counter. To check comments and other fields, use the LinkedIn Character Counter on this site.

Will the formatting survive when I paste it?

Yes, because it is plain Unicode text, not formatting. The same text pastes the same way anywhere that supports those characters. Bullets are the "•" character and numbers are typed digits.
